The Shifting the Power Fund: A Game-Changer for Brixton and Peckham
The CVR Community is thrilled to launch a new fund, bringing nearly £400,000 to support community-led projects in Brixton and Peckham.
This is not just another grant scheme; it is the first of its kind, designed to put real decision-making power into the hands of local people.
For two years, we worked closely with seven passionate community members from London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark to create a funding model that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of local residents.
The result? A fund that is shaped by the community, for the community.
For the first time, a Community Board - selected through a democratic lottery in partnership with Sortition Foundation - will determine the priorities for funding. This ensures that decisions are driven by those who understand the community’s challenges and opportunities best.
How Does It Work?
The Community Board, made up of 12-15 local residents, will play a crucial role in ensuring the fund is distributed fairly and effectively. Their responsibilities include:
✔️ Leading the strategy and priorities for the fund.
✔️ Acting as ambassadors for the initiative.
✔️ Making funding decisions that reflect real community needs and lived experiences.
