Echoes of Windrush: Collaborating with AGE UK to Amplify Black Caribbean Voices
ClearView Research and Age UK are exploring the social, financial, and well-being challenges faced by the older Black Caribbean community, and the complexities they’ve faced during their lifetimes with racism.
Age UK’s want to strengthen its existing knowledge and provide important insights for other key stakeholders on how best to support older Black Caribbean people and address the inequalities they are facing.
Our project aims to highlight the experiences of those who have faced past injustices and continue to struggle with their effects today. It addresses issues like the lasting trauma caused by the Home Office's 'hostile environment' policy and the digital exclusion that isolates older and marginalised people from essential services. The goal of our partnership is to bridge gaps, make a meaningful impact on policy, raise public awareness, and amplify voices that are often overlooked.
Over the next few months, ClearView Research will be having in-depth interviews with older Black Caribbean people (50+) from places like Birmingham, Bristol, London, and smaller communities with Caribbean people to hear their stories.
We want to honour their legacies and remind people of the contributions Black Caribbeans have made, not just the ongoing struggles they face due to deep-rooted inequality, especially in their later years.
If you are a community group or organisation that supports Black Caribbean older adults groups or someone with lived experience (or you know someone that is) we’d love for you to be part of this project to be a voice to those often overlooked. If you want to hear more about this and find out how you can get involved, make sure you subscribe to the CVR Community.
