Healthy Streets Community Research To Understand the Local Experience of Trial Street Changes

Impact on Urban Health, 2022

Healthy Streets Southwark is a partnership project between Impact on Urban Health, Southwark Council, and was piloting several changes to the streets in three neighbourhoods in Southwark.

ClearView Research recruited nine local people across the three project areas and trained them to be ‘community researchers’, capturing the views of people in their community. Once trained, ClearView Research worked with the community researchers to design a research methodology in preparation for the eight-week research period where the community researchers spent time interviewing residents and observing the impact of the trial street changes in their local neighbourhood.

We wanted to empower local residents to facilitate conversations in their community about the trial street changes with the knowledge that these insights would be reported back to the council and considered in the council decision-making processes.
